Francois Lurton

200 acres of virgin land were purchased by Francois Lurton and his brother in 1996 in the Uco Valley.  As most wineries were located in and around Mendoza and considering that the land was situated in an arid landscape, just beneath the Andes Mountains many mocked the idea of wine growing in this region.  However, Lurton proved these critics wrong and today the Uco Valley is peppered with famous names and has become the most talked about wine region in Argentina and arguably the whole of South America according to Tim Atkin of Decanter Magazine.  The yields in these conditions are very low and of extremely high quality.  A state of the art winery was built in the late 90s located in the midst of the vineyards.
